The James Irvine Foundation seeks to expand opportunity for the people of California to participate in a vibrant, successful, and inclusive society. The Foundation's work focuses enhancing the educational and economic prospects of low-income Californians, enhancing civic and cultural engagement, fostering mutual understanding, and enriching California's intellectual and creative environment.
FSG has helped the Irvine Foundation's Community Foundations Initiative II by:
- Providing technical assistance and analytically-based recommendations for enhanced sustainability to three small foundations
- Sharing lessons from FSG’s broader sustainability work with the full CFI II cohort of nine California-based community foundations to promote a discussion of common operating model challenges and identifying key variables that define the operating model of each participant

"FSG's research on sustainability has been both provocative and extremely meaningful to the small community foundations in our Community Foundations Initiative II. The FSG team has made complex information quite understandable to our grantees, and their collegiality, professionalism, and willingness to actively share resources have made them an integral part of the effort."
-Anne Vally, Special Initiatives Officer, The James Irvine Foundation
