Managing Director
Jeff is responsible for FSG’s San Francisco office and oversees the firm’s education practice. He has led engagements with private foundations, community foundations, nonprofit organizations, universities, and corporate clients on issues of strategy, evaluation, business planning, advocacy, and implementation. Recent education-related projects include strategic planning for a nationally prominent Principal training and support program, documenting charter school best practices and conducting an evaluation for the NewSchools Venture Fund, identifying school leadership and school support service needs in post-Katrina New Orleans, business planning for a new University-based math & science teacher training institute, evaluating education policy reform, and designing a major community foundation’s education program strategy.
Jeff’s prior experience combines an extensive background in strategy consulting for private and social sector organizations with significant experience in education and nonprofit management. Prior to joining FSG, Jeff was the Director of California Operations for The SEED Foundation where he was responsible for assessing the feasibility of establishing public college-preparatory boarding schools in California. Before SEED, Jeff was a strategy consultant, first with McKinsey & Company and then with The Bridgespan Group, where he worked on strategy development, business planning, evaluation, turnaround planning and operations improvement projects for private-sector clients in the retail, manufacturing, and technology sectors and with public sector clients including foundations, nonprofit agencies, and social entrepreneurs. Jeff's direct nonprofit experience includes three years creating and managing educational and youth development programs as the Director of Programs at the Harlem Educational Activities Fund in New York City. He also spent three years teaching math at a New York City public school as a Teach For America corps member.
Jeff holds an M.B.A in General Management from Harvard Business School and a B.A in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania.
