The Chicago Community Trust seeks to help make the Chicago metropolitan area a great place to live, work, and raise a family. Its activities are focused in five core areas, including arts and culture, basic human needs, community development, education, and health.
FSG helped the new CEO to engage the Board and staff in a strategic planning process that encompassed both donor development and program strategy. This process included:
- A survey of best practices in the field
- Interviews with donors, grantees, and other funders in the region to understand the Foundation's strengths
- The creation, in collaboration with program staff, of clear focus areas and goals for each program area
- The redesign, in collaboration with staff, of the development and donor services departments
- The creation of new performance measures and processes to enhance Board engagement
In the years following the engagement, the Trust has experienced a substantial increase in contributions from donors and has benefited from more streamlined operations.

"FSG helped us better understand the needs of today's donors and the links between development and grantmaking within our organization - and they backed it up with practical advice on implementation and evaluation."
-Donald M. Stewart, Past President & CEO, The Chicago Community Trust
