John S. and James L. Knight Foundation

The Knight Foundation is a national foundation with local roots. The Foundation seeks opportunities that can transform both communities and journalism.  The Knight Foundation funds in the 26 communities where the Knight brothers owned newspapers. The Foundation also funds a national program in journalism as well as participating in several other select other national initiatives. The Foundation approved $165MM in new grants in 2007 against $2.54BB in assets.

• Train its program officers and senior management in strategies for exercising Adaptive Leadership to help bring about change in the Foundation’s key program areas
• Provide the Knight Foundation’s community foundation partners with strategic perspectives on the future of the community foundation field
